Property for Sale in Asti, Piedmont

Asti is the capital of the Province of Asti, a historic city on the Tanaro river surrounded by the vineyards of the Monferrato. It gives its name to one of Italy’s best-known sparkling wines, and the homes listed here are substantial properties in the countryside around the city.

The City and Its Countryside

The centre has a medieval core with towers, palaces and the Gothic cathedral, and every September it hosts the Palio, a bareback horse race through the city. Wine is central to local life, with Barbera d’Asti and Moscato among the best-known names.

Outside the city, the hills are covered with vineyards and dotted with brick farmhouses and small villages. Rocca d’Arazzo lies to the south-east, and Costigliole d’Asti and Montegrosso d’Asti are among the wine villages to the south.

Property for Sale in Asti

The listings are large villas and a farmhouse with winery, including a winery property named after the infernot, the small cellars carved into the soft rock in parts of the Monferrato. These are high-value homes, from the high hundreds of thousands to more than €2 million, with many bedrooms.

Everyday Life and Getting There

As a provincial capital, Asti has hospitals, schools, markets and a full range of shops, with Turin and Alba within reach.

The station is on the main line between Turin and Genoa, and the A21 motorway passes the city. For flights, Turin Caselle is the closest choice, and Milan Malpensa or Genoa are also practical.

Buying in Asti

Country estates often include outbuildings, wine cellars and agricultural land, each of which should be properly documented. If wine production is part of the plan, check licences, vineyard registrations and any leases.

Ask a geometra to go through the property’s cadastral history and the permits on file, confirming that converted rooms and cellars are legal. Heating large Piedmontese houses in winter is costly, so check energy certificates.
