Cernobbio lies on the western shore of Lake Como, just north of the city of Como, in the Province of Como. It is one of the most exclusive places on the lake, known for its grand villas and gardens, and its position close to Milan and the Swiss border has made it popular with international buyers.
The Town and the Lake
The lakefront has a promenade, a landing stage for the lake boats and a small historic centre of shops and cafés. Villa d’Este, now a famous hotel, and Villa Erba, used for exhibitions and events, stand on the shore. Behind the town, the land rises steeply towards Monte Bisbino, with hamlets and villas on the slopes.
Como is next door, and the lake road north passes Carate Urio and Laglio before reaching Tremezzina in the central part of the lake.
