Property for Sale in Civitacampomarano, Molise

Civitacampomarano is a small hill village in the Province of Campobasso, in the hills of central Molise between the Biferno and Trigno valleys. Like many villages in the region, it has lost much of its population over the past century, which is why houses here are among the cheapest in Italy.

The Village and Its Surroundings

The old village is dominated by a medieval castle and has narrow lanes of stone houses. In recent years it has become known for an annual street art festival, and murals painted by artists now decorate many walls around the village.

The countryside is quiet and agricultural, with wheat fields, olive groves and woods. Guardialfiera, overlooking the reservoir on the Biferno, lies a short drive to the east.

Property for Sale in Civitacampomarano

The listings are almost all village houses, plus an apartment, and prices are very low: most are around €20,000 or less, and none exceed €50,000. Homes are usually small, with one or two bedrooms, and many will need renovation.

Everyday Life and Getting There

Services in the village are basic, so larger supermarkets, hospitals and offices are found in Termoli, Larino or Campobasso. The Adriatic beaches around Termoli are the nearest stretch of coast.

Termoli has a station on the Adriatic railway and an exit on the A14 motorway. The nearest airports are Pescara, Naples and Bari, each requiring a longer drive. A car is essential.

Buying in Civitacampomarano

Very cheap houses can come with high renovation costs, so budget for the roof, structure, utilities and windows. Molise is an earthquake zone, and parts of some hill villages are affected by landslides, so ask about ground stability and any restrictions on the street. Properties that have been empty for decades may belong to several heirs, some living abroad. A local geometra should check the cadastral details and planning position, and a notary will confirm clear title.
