Property for Sale in Costigliole d’Asti, Piedmont

Costigliole d’Asti is a wine town in the hills south of Asti, in the Province of Asti, where the Monferrato meets the edge of the Langhe. Its hillsides are covered with vineyards producing Barbera d’Asti and Moscato, and old brick farmhouses stand along the ridges.

The Town and the Vineyards

The town is dominated by its large castle, which stands above the centre, and the comune includes a number of hamlets scattered across the hills. The surrounding wine country of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato is a UNESCO World Heritage landscape, and wine cellars, agriturismi and good restaurants are a big part of local life.

Neighbouring wine villages include Calosso, Agliano Terme and Montegrosso d’Asti, while Canelli, the home of sparkling Asti, lies to the south and Asti to the north.

The listings are rural: traditional Piedmontese farmhouses (cascine), country houses with land and views, and renovation projects in the surrounding countryside. Prices are in the mid-range, mostly between about €300,000 and €650,000, with unrestored buildings at the lower end.

Everyday Life and Getting There

The town has shops, cafés, a pharmacy and schools, and Asti provides hospitals, markets and a wider choice of services. Autumn is the busiest season, with the grape harvest, truffle fairs and wine events across the area.

Asti has a station on the line between Turin and Genoa, and the A21 motorway passes the city. Turin airport is the nearest, with Genoa, Milan Malpensa and Milan Linate also usable.

Buying in Costigliole d’Asti

Old cascine are often built of brick with large barns and haylofts, so allow for roof work, damp treatment and new systems in a renovation. If vineyards come with the house, ask about planting rights and whether the land is rented to a local grower.

Landscape protection in this wine country can limit changes to the outside of a farmhouse. A geometra from the area can check that the buildings, barns and land parcels agree with the cadastre and the comune’s planning files.
