Property for Sale in Gavorrano, Tuscany
Gavorrano is a hill village in the Maremma, between Follonica and Grosseto, in the Province of Grosseto. It sits on the edge of the Colline Metallifere, the metal-bearing hills whose mines shaped the area’s history, and looks over the plain towards the Tyrrhenian coast.
The Village and Its Surroundings
The old village has narrow streets around its church and views down to the sea. Gavorrano’s former pyrite mines are now part of a mining park, with a museum and an open-air theatre set in a quarry. The comune also includes Bagno di Gavorrano on the plain, Caldana and Giuncarico among the hills, and countryside of olive groves, cork oaks and farmland.
Scarlino and the beaches around Follonica are just west, Massa Marittima is in the hills to the north, and Castiglione della Pescaia lies to the south on the coast.

The SS1 Aurelia dual carriageway runs along the coast nearby, and Follonica and Grosseto have stations on the Tyrrhenian line between Pisa and Rome. For flights, Pisa and Florence lie to the north and Rome Fiumicino to the south.
Buying in Gavorrano
A farmhouse divided into holiday apartments will need its tourist licence, fire safety and pool permits checked. Country properties may rely on wells and septic tanks.
Former mining areas can have specific ground conditions, so ask about the land around the house. Before signing, have a local geometra reconcile the property with its cadastral listing and with the permits issued for each building.
