Property for Sale in Lastra a Signa, Tuscany
Lastra a Signa is a small town on the south bank of the Arno, just west of Florence in the Province of Florence. It combines a walled medieval core with green hills of olive groves and villas behind, while remaining within easy reach of the city.
The Town and Its Hills
The old centre is still partly enclosed by its fifteenth-century walls, and the Spedale di Sant’Antonio, a former hospital with an elegant loggia, stands at its heart. Up in the hills, the hamlet of Malmantile keeps an almost intact ring of walls, and country lanes lead past farms and villas towards the vineyards further south.
Florence is just upriver, Scandicci lies next door, and Montespertoli is reached through the hills to the south. Downstream along the Arno is Empoli.

Buying in Lastra a Signa
Part of the town lies on the Arno plain, so ask about flood risk for homes near the river. In the hills, landscape rules restrict changes to old farm buildings and the construction of pools.
Townhouses in the old centre may share walls, roofs or courtyards with neighbours. Ask a geometra to compare the house with its registered floor plan and planning history, so that any differences are sorted out before the deed.
