Lerici is a seaside town on the eastern side of the Gulf of La Spezia, the stretch of coast known as the Gulf of Poets, in the Province of La Spezia. Pastel houses crowd around a harbour beneath a medieval castle, with olive-covered hills rising behind.
The Town and Its Villages
The castle of Lerici guards the harbour and the promenade, which curves round the bay towards San Terenzo, the village where Shelley lived in the Villa Magni. South of the town, a winding road leads through pine woods to the small coves of Fiascherino and the old fishing village of Tellaro, perched on rocks above the sea.
La Spezia lies across the gulf, with Portovenere and the Cinque Terre beyond, and the walled town of Sarzana is a short drive inland.

The homes for sale are mainly villas, alongside a detached house, typically with sea views and gardens on the hillside above the bay. Lerici is one of the most expensive places on this coast, and all of the listings are priced above €1 million, reaching nearly €3 million.
Everyday Life and Getting There
The town has shops, restaurants, a market and pharmacies, with supermarkets and hospitals in La Spezia and Sarzana. Summer is busy with visitors and boats, while the winter months are much quieter. Boats run across the gulf in season.
The nearest stations are Sarzana and La Spezia, both on the coastal line between Genoa and Pisa, and the A12 motorway is reached at Sarzana. Pisa airport is the most practical, with Genoa as an alternative.
Buying in Lerici
Many villas are reached by narrow roads with little parking, and some can only be approached on foot, so check access carefully. Look at retaining walls, terraces and drainage on steep plots, and at salt damage on houses near the sea.
Coastal landscape rules limit what can be added or changed. A surveyor should confirm with the comune and the land registry that the villa’s layout, outbuildings and any pool are fully authorised.
