Property for Sale in Lesa, Piedmont
Lesa is a lakeside town on the western, Piedmontese shore of Lake Maggiore, in the Province of Novara. It lies between Meina and Belgirate, a little south of Stresa, with wooded hills climbing behind it towards the Vergante.
The Town and the Lake
The town has a lakefront promenade, a small harbour and an old centre of narrow streets. The novelist Alessandro Manzoni spent long periods here at Villa Stampa. Above the shore, the comune includes hill hamlets such as Solcio, Comnago and Calogna, surrounded by chestnut woods and meadows with views over the water.
Stresa, with its ferries to the Borromean Islands, is just to the north, and Arona, at the southern end of the lake, is a short drive away.
Property for Sale in Lesa
Every listing here is a villa, many of them substantial historic or lakefront houses with large gardens and several bedrooms. Prices sit at the top of the market, starting above €1.5 million and reaching well beyond €3 million for the most important properties.
Everyday Life and Getting There
Lesa has shops, restaurants and a pharmacy, and Arona and Stresa provide larger supermarkets and more services. The town has a station on the line along the lake between Arona and Domodossola, with connections to Milan. The A26 motorway passes just inland, and Milan Malpensa airport is close.
Buying in Lesa
Large lakeside villas can have high running costs for heating, gardens and maintenance, so ask for recent bills. Check lower floors and boathouses for damp, and confirm the status of any jetty or mooring, which normally depends on a state concession.
Historic villas may be listed, which limits alterations and adds approvals. Get a geometra to match the villa, its guest houses and garden buildings against the land registry and the comune’s planning records before the preliminary contract.
