Property for Sale in Montaldo Scarampi, Piedmont

Montaldo Scarampi is a small hilltop village in the Monferrato, in the Province of Asti, a short drive south of Asti itself. Surrounded by vineyards, woods and fields, it looks out over the rolling hills towards the Alps.

The Village and Its Surroundings

The village is a cluster of brick and stone houses around its church on the top of the hill, with farms and country houses spread over the slopes below. The land around it is mostly planted with vines, chiefly Barbera, alternating with woods and hazelnut groves.

Mombercelli is the nearest neighbour, and Rocca d’Arazzo, Montegrosso d’Asti and Costigliole d’Asti are all close. Asti is the main town for services.

Property for Sale in Montaldo Scarampi

The listings are a mix of farmhouses and village houses, several with panoramic views, including one house to restore and a farmhouse with a private park and woodland. Prices are among the lowest in the area: several homes are offered below €70,000, while larger farmhouses reach about €300,000 to €400,000.

Everyday Life and Getting There

The village is very small, so shopping, schools and health care are in Asti or the nearby larger villages. Life is quiet and rural, with local wine festivals in summer and autumn.

Asti has trains to Turin and Genoa and is on the A21 motorway. Turin airport is the nearest, with Milan and Genoa further away. A car is essential.

Buying in Montaldo Scarampi

Cheap farmhouses often need full renovation, so obtain estimates for roofs, walls, plumbing and heating before making an offer. Find out how much woodland or farmland comes with the house and whether any of it is let to local farmers.

Ask a geometra to trace the property in the cadastral and planning records so you know that the house and barns are properly registered and that renovation will be permitted.
