Property for Sale in Monterotondo Marittimo, Tuscany
Monterotondo Marittimo is a hill village in the Colline Metallifere, in the north of the Province of Grosseto. Surrounded by woods and geothermal landscapes, it offers rural property within reach of the Maremma coast.
The Village and Its Surroundings
The old village is a small cluster of stone houses on a hilltop, with views over wooded valleys. The area is known for its geothermal activity: the Parco Naturale delle Biancane, just outside the village, has steaming vents and white mineral rocks, and there are geothermal power plants in the surrounding hills.
The medieval town of Massa Marittima, with its cathedral and mining history, is the nearest larger centre. Towards the sea are Follonica and Scarlino, with their beaches on the Gulf of Follonica.
Property for Sale in Monterotondo Marittimo
The homes for sale are renovated farmhouses and country houses, some with pools and large plots of land, and several have six or more bedrooms. Prices are in the upper range, roughly between €1 million and €1.5 million.
Everyday Life and Getting There
The village has a few shops and basic services, while supermarkets, schools and a hospital are found in Massa Marittima and on the coast at Follonica. The woods are good for walking and cycling, and the beaches are a reasonable drive away.
The coastal dual carriageway between Livorno and Grosseto runs near Follonica, which has a station on the main line between Pisa and Rome. Pisa and Florence airports are the most convenient, and Rome is further south.
Buying in Monterotondo Marittimo
Isolated country houses depend on private roads, wells or springs and septic systems, so check how each one works and who maintains them. Ask also about the land’s use and any agreements with neighbouring farms.
A geometra should compare the farmhouse, its annexes and pool with the cadastral maps and the permits on file at the comune, and flag any work that was never regularised.
