Property for Sale in Murlo, Tuscany
Murlo is a rural comune in the hills south of Siena, in the Province of Siena, where woodland meets the edge of the Crete Senesi. It is known for its Etruscan past and for a quiet countryside of oak woods, pasture and stone farmhouses.
The Villages and the Countryside
The tiny walled village of Murlo, once a castle of the bishops of Siena, is a ring of houses around a church on a hilltop. Nearby, the main village of Vescovado di Murlo has the shops and services, and the Etruscan museum, which displays finds from the excavations at Poggio Civitate.
The comune is largely green, with woods along the Merse and Farma rivers and small hamlets such as Casciano di Murlo. Siena is close to the north, Monteroni d’Arbia lies to the east in the Arbia valley, and Montalcino is a drive to the south.
Property for Sale in Murlo
Nearly everything for sale is a stone farmhouse, often with outbuildings, gardens and land, together with a plot of agricultural land. Prices are mostly between €600,000 and €1.1 million, with larger properties going higher.
Everyday Life and Getting There
Vescovado and Casciano have food shops, bars and basic services, and Siena provides hospitals, supermarkets and cultural life. The area is good for walking, riding and cycling, with the Val d’Orcia and the Crete close by.
The Via Cassia runs to the east, and Siena has train connections to Florence. Florence and Pisa airports are the most practical, with Rome also usable.
Buying in Murlo
Remote farmhouses often depend on private wells, gas tanks and unpaved tracks, so check how utilities are supplied and who maintains the road. Agricultural land usually cannot be built on except for farming needs.
Ask a geometra who knows the Sienese countryside to confirm that the farmhouse and every outbuilding are legally registered and that past restorations had the right permits.
