Property for Sale in Pelago, Tuscany
Pelago is a hill village east of Florence, in the Province of Florence, on the slopes that rise from the Sieve and Arno valleys towards the forests of Vallombrosa and the Consuma pass. It offers green countryside and wine estates within easy reach of the city.
The Village and Its Surroundings
The old village is compact, with a parish church, a few squares and narrow streets; the sculptor Lorenzo Ghiberti, maker of the bronze doors of the Florence Baptistery, is traditionally said to have been born here. Each summer the village hosts a well-known festival of street performers.
The comune stretches from the valley floor up into chestnut and fir woods, with hamlets such as Diacceto and others scattered along the slopes. It is part of the Chianti Rufina wine area, and the Nipozzano estate lies within it. Neighbouring towns include Pontassieve in the valley, Rufina to the north and Reggello to the south.

Everyday Life and Getting There

Pontassieve station has regular trains to Florence, and the A1 motorway is reached at Incisa or Firenze Sud. Florence airport is the nearest, with Pisa and Bologna as alternatives.
Buying in Pelago
Higher properties near Vallombrosa and the Consuma can be snowy in winter and reached by narrow roads, so consider access carefully. Homes in the woods may also need regular clearing of vegetation around the buildings.
Ask a geometra to compare the house and its outbuildings with the cadastral plans and the comune’s archive of permits, and to check any rural buildings that have been converted to residential use.
