Property for Sale in Terni, Umbria
Terni is the second city of Umbria and the capital of the Province of Terni, in the south of the region near the border with Lazio. Long an industrial centre known for its steelworks, it is surrounded by green hills, the Nera valley and some of Umbria’s best-known natural sights.
The City and Its Surroundings
Much of the city was rebuilt after wartime bombing, but it keeps Roman remains, medieval churches and parks. Terni is the city of Saint Valentine, whose basilica stands on the edge of town, and the Cascata delle Marmore, a series of man-made waterfalls dating back to Roman times, is just to the east.
Nearby, the hill town of Narni overlooks the Nera gorge, Amelia stands within its ancient walls, and Acquasparta lies to the north. The Valnerina leads east into the mountains.

Everyday Life and Getting There
Terni has a hospital, schools, shopping centres and markets, offering city services at Umbrian prices. Lake Piediluco and the Marmore falls are popular for weekends.
The city is on the railway between Rome and Ancona, with regular trains to Rome. A dual carriageway links Terni to the A1 at Orte. Rome Fiumicino and Perugia are the nearest airports.
Buying in Terni
The area is seismic, so check the structural condition of older buildings and whether any works were certified. Some country houses are reached by steep lanes that need care in bad weather.
Have a local surveyor examine the land registry plans and building permits for the house and any annexes, as rural properties often include unrecorded additions.
