The Historic Centre
The Roman Arena still hosts a summer opera season, and the centre is filled with medieval and Renaissance buildings, from Piazza delle Erbe with its market to the Castelvecchio fortress and bridge. The Adige loops around the old city, with views from the hill of San Pietro.
Outside the city, the vineyards of Valpolicella and Soave lie to the north and east, and Lake Garda is close to the west.

Everyday Life and Getting There
Verona has hospitals, a university, international schools, shops and a busy cultural calendar. Much of the centre is pedestrianised.
Verona Porta Nuova station has fast trains to Milan, Venice and Rome. The A4 and A22 motorways meet near the city, and Verona Villafranca airport is close.

In the historic centre, expect restricted traffic zones, no parking and heritage rules for changes to facades and windows. Some period apartments have frescoes or protected features.
