Property for Sale in Vinci, Tuscany
Vinci lies on the southern slopes of the Montalbano, a range of low hills in the west of the Province of Florence, above the Arno valley. Famous as the home of Leonardo da Vinci, it is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, and the properties for sale here are large country houses and estates.
The Town and the Montalbano
The small historic centre is gathered around the castle of the Conti Guidi, which now holds the Museo Leonardiano with models of Leonardo’s machines. A short way up the hill, at Anchiano, the farmhouse where he is believed to have been born is open to visitors, reached by paths through the olive terraces.
The Montalbano is a working landscape of olives, vines and woods, producing Chianti Montalbano wine and olive oil. Neighbouring Cerreto Guidi, with its Medici villa, lies to the west, and Empoli is just to the south across the Arno.
Property for Sale in Vinci
The homes for sale are large and expensive: a farmhouse with fifteen bedrooms, a detached house and an estate complex with several buildings. Prices start at around €1.5 million and reach several million for the largest estate.
Everyday Life and Getting There
Vinci has shops, restaurants and schools, and the lower villages towards the Arno have supermarkets. Empoli offers a hospital and a wider range of services, and Florence, Lucca and Pisa are all easy to reach.
Trains from Empoli run frequently to Florence and Pisa, and the Florence to Pisa dual carriageway passes close by. Florence airport is the nearest, with Pisa a good alternative.
Buying in Vinci
Estates with olive groves and vineyards need ongoing work, so ask who currently manages the land and what it costs to keep it productive. Farmland may carry agricultural obligations or grants that pass to a new owner.
Large rural complexes have often grown in stages. A surveyor familiar with the Montalbano should match each building, pool and annexe against the cadastral plans and building permits, and confirm any landscape restrictions.
