History & Restoration
A rare & beautiful historic Villa Veneto of fine proportions, built with no expense spared & restored to the same specifications as the original. Overseen by the ’Belle-Arte di Venezia’ in every step of the restoration. Original materials used throughout with 21st century structural knowledge used by the architect when necessary. This Villa was built to the same renaissance specifications & proportions as those on the Grand Canal in Venice.
The villa with its square base (16.25m) dates from the mid 16C. & belonged to the Morosini Doge family. The most important side is the south, characterised by an open atrium with two columns of Istria stone, the ‘piano nobile’ has a large balcony & ‘Serliana’ of Istria stone with ionic capitals finishing the colonnade. The last floor is a large open space the full internal size of the villa, the visible beams are of exquisite workmanship. The villa is extremely light & airy throughout.
Directly worked in Venice marble-cutting workshops & delivered by river – banister, window frames, columns, architrave, brackets, Ionic capitals & all internal doors present marble jambs & architraves. The structure of the the stairs is of inclined barrel shaped masonry vaults & the steps are of solid Pietra d’Istra. The room to the left of the atrium still preserves the original marble fireplace.
The pyramidal roof has four pitches supported by an ingenious wooden structural work that rest on 4 pillars, in addition to the external walls. Four chimneys representing the 4 seasons by stone figures standing N,S,E & west. The use of Pietra d’Istra marble is so massive & precious that it denotes an important structure, built without any concerns or worries regarding thrift by a very rich family who could afford investing a great amount in a country Villa.
This is a classical Venetian structure, with a central hall passing with two serlianes (triple lancet windows) at the north & south facades, with rectangular rooms 6x5m on the ground & first floor. The staircase is on the east side of the halls.
Originally, it was without any agricultural functions as shown by the fact that the ‘sheds’ are dimensionally very modest.

The Villa was owned for four centuries, until 1908, by the Venetian nobles Morosini, who used it for their own pleasure & marsh duck shooting.

/wp:paragraph

wp:paragraph

The Morosini are a noble Venetian family & among the oldest in Venice, who gave the Republic of Venice four Doges between 1142 & 1688. Tommasina became Queen of Hungary, Tommaso, Cardinal of Constantinople, the history of the villa is boundless.
